Over the years, there has been a significant development in digital technologies, which has transformed the way we communicate with one another. Prior to the technology that is available today, if one was to communicate with someone they would either have to go and physically visit them, or send them a letter on the typewriter. Think of the time and effort the people before us went through just to communicate. However, times have changed, and most of us, if not all of us, were born and raised in an era where communication has never been easier and more convenient. We no longer need to go to great lengths in order to exchange information, thanks to the availability of mobile phones, computers and the internet which have had an immense impact on our lives. No longer is it necessary to visit others, nor write letters. With just a few clicks, we are able to talk to anyone, anywhere, whether we are at home or in the car (Wright, n.d). We are even capable of talking oversees, through Skype for example, thus keeping relationships alive, despite distance barriers (Maddox, 2014). As a student, I have found the developments in technology extremely useful to me, particularly for group assignments. Working in groups on an assignment can be difficult as not everyone lives nearby to one another, and each person has their own commitments, such as work, which can be inconvenient. However, this has no longer be an issue of concern, as the availability of technology and social media has allowed us to communicate and collaborate with another, regardless of where we are or what time, thus making laborious tasks less stressful for us. Suddenly, we can have multiple conversations at the same time. Some however, argue that growth in technologies has done the opposite of making people become more social, and that people are not participating in real conversation with chatter (“Big Issues in Technology ---Is Technology making people Less sociable?”, 2015). The rapidly increasing use of technology has generated ethical dilemmas. Privacy, for instance is one issue facing users of technology. Some websites secretly collect personal information, without explicit permission. Copyright is also an ethical issue. Being exposed to a vast majority of information, it is important as good users of the internet, that we do not plagiarise other people’s work, and if any ideas or information are used from other sources, we must acknowledge these. - Pascale References Wright, J.
